Waffles with Black Cocoa

These waffles are a challenge!

Black batter in a black waffle iron baking.  When are they done or when are they burned to a crisp?

The recipe is one of the standart waffle ones. That helps a lot when you bake them. When you know how your own iron works, and you have a good timer, everything is going to be fine. The waffles will be delicious.

I bought VanHouten Black Cocoa on the internet. It was not on the cheap side. It has a very strong dark chocolate taste and colors everything black in no time. Including your fingers and T-Shirt.

Baking with it means to adjust the recipes for standart cocoa to the black one. You need more sugar and even some vanilla to compensate the bitter chocolate vibe.

Recipe for 12 waffles:

100 g flour, pinch of salt, 45 g black cocoa, 2 tsp baking powder

100 g soft butter, 90 g sugar, 1 tbsp vanilla sugar, 3 egg yolks

3 egg whites, 1/4 tsp vanilla extract, 220 ml milk

Beat the egg whites to stiff peaks.

Sift flour, salt, cocoa and baking powder together.

Beat butter and the sugars together, add egg yolks. Then follow with the sifted mix. Add milk and vanilla extract. Finish with the egg white. Let the batter rest for 20 min.

Oil the waffle iron and start baking. Sift some icing sugar on top of the baked waffles.
