Paella - Spanish week at a Supermarket

Our Discount supermarkets often have speciality weeks featuring food from Germany's most loved holiday destinations.

I stumbled in to Spanish week at PENNY.

I went in to look for Instant Polenta, no luck. I came out with a couple of "Spanish" goodies.

One was a vegetarian Paella rice package with dried vegetables. It looked promising and the ingredients list on the back was not too much filled with unneccessary components.

Since vegetarian missed some proteins, I choose a package of cooked prawns.

Preparation was easy, just 2 tbsp olive oil in a Paella pan and the rice mix stirred through on high heat for 1 minute.

I made 750 ml of vegstock from paste in hot water and poured it over. 5 min stirring on high, then 15 min on medium and only a few stirs. The last 5 min, I put the prawns on top and a lid on.

After the 15 min, I let it rest for 5 min.

A good and easy rice dish. A bit too much dried tomatoes for my taste but that is just me.

Part of the rice was sticking to the bottom of the pan, as it should be. That was a Paella a lot better than the one we had in a Portugese/Spanish restaurant on Easter weekend. That one was swimming in oil and nothing stuck on the bottom of the pan.
