Baked goods are always a special treat. No matter, if they are sweet or savoury.
Puff pastry is so versatile and easy to buy. But take the good stuff made with butter!
I took the sweet and savoury route today and mixed apples with cheese. I bought a small jar of paprika jelly a couple of weeks ago. That went absolutely well with the other ingredients. A bit of smoked paprika as a seasoning on top.
I was happy with the style the pastry came out after baking. I haven't used that method to shape the pastry before. That is something to keep in mind for future bakings with this kind of pastry.
Recipe for 6 pastries:
1 rectangular sheet of puff pastry
2 apples, cored
6 tsp paprika jelly spicy
6 slices Camembert
Smoked paprika, pepper
1 egg
Preheat the oven 200 C fan.
Use a pizza cutter to divide the puff pastry in 6 squares. Cut the apple in 5 discs and eat the outer ones. Place 1 apple ring on each square. Fill the middle with paprika jelly.
Place the cheese on top and dust with smoked paprika and pepper.
Take a knife and cut 1 cm to the edges a line, not touching the one on the other side. Fold the edges over and secure on top of the cheese. Make an egg wash and brush the pastry.
Bake for 15 to 20 min. Serve warm.
