Asparagus Baguette

Crispy warm bread out of the oven with melted cheese and toppings is great. I can not understand why people buy the frozen stuff when it is so easy to prepare your choice of bread yourself.

I did not use a baguette, but a Swabian soul with caraway seeds on top. One of our bakeries had some and that is very rare. There are only really available in the Southwest of Germany.

I cut it open lengthwise and put creme fraiche as base layer on both sides. A good amount of black pepper was next.

At the butcher I choose Kirschwasser (cherry schnaps) cooked ham. I wondered if the pigs had a big party before their slaughter, but no. The schnaps is part of the curing salt that is inserted in the ham.

Green asparagus is great eaten raw. It went on the bread after the ham. I had a bit of yellow bell pepper sitting around. The color contrast is good. Next more pepper and dried oregano went on.

Last was the star of the show, the mozzarella.

Both breads went on baking paper in the oven at 180 C fan until the cheese was melted.

Ingredients for 2:

1 baguette style bread

4 tbsp creme fraiche

Pepper

6 slices cooked ham

5 green asparagus

Some yellow bell pepper

1/2 mozzarella ball

Oregano
